]]>I am closer than ever to implementing a plan that I have already talked to some of you about. I am putting the final details on a full color mag/book to leave in the hands of legislators, their staffers, and other people of influence.
You read that right. I’m making plans to be a regular visitor to our nation’s capital as well as other centers of power. I plan on trying to sit across from these prominent folks and–face to face–share with them the results of my research that began more than five years ago when the doctor asked my wife and I if we wanted to abort our beautiful daughter. What I have discovered has blown me away, and I thought I already knew something.
I feel like even if someone is out there sharing this stuff with the ‘powers that be,’ I myself need to be.
The scope of this stuff is immense and too long to go into here, but if you want an idea, check out this recent article by an ‘ethicist’ urging parents to ‘select’ against children with disabilities. Note the phrase: “but we should encourage them.”
I’ve learned that these folks REALLY MEAN IT when they say they want to ‘encourage’ people to abort children with disabilities. From that article, you’ll see that they don’t only have in mind ‘defective’ people. But I risk digressing.
For the last 9 months or so I have been compiling this information into a format that I hope quickly conveys the salient points. I have been designing a plan to maximize my impact. I have already spent a couple of thousand dollars on the project, and this doesn’t begin to cover the man hours in research and materials. It is darn near time to pull the trigger, and I guess with this letter you can consider it pulled.
I am going to be working on setting up appointments for my first trip to Washington DC in October to coincide with being there to encourage my brother, who will be running the Marine Corps Marathon. I plan on being back in January for the annual Pro-Life March. I am ready to start setting up appointments with Wisconsin state legislators. From there, who knows, but part of my plan is to continue to follow up with these people, so its not a ‘one off’ thing.
If you want to know more details about the full width and breadth of my plan on this matter, I’d be happy to discuss it more with you. If you’re reading this, you probably already know how to contact me. Otherwise, director@athanatosministries.org is a good place to start. Phone conversations are fine. (Anyone who knows me knows that when I say ‘I’ve got a plan’ I REALLY MEAN IT! lol It’s going to take longer than you can read in a sitting to spell it all out.)
I would encourage you to contemplate to what degree you can support me in this project. It represents a sizable investment on my part in time and resources, which I’ve already been expending, but it is a worthy use of both as far as I’m concerned. The guiding principles here, I think, are contained in Matthew 6:19-21 and Luke 16:9 and Proverbs 24:11.
One final note: I am talking here about speaking to the ‘powers that be’ but I am prepared to talk about this stuff to whomever will listen. I’d like to be able to offer myself at no cost to whatever group will have me. Your support could make that possible, too.

Many people have asked “what I need.”
I am prepared to go forth with this by hook or by crook, and alone if necessary. I haven’t asked anyone for help, just their encouragement and prayer. God plus one is a majority, as the saying goes. However, I should have expected that the very folks who I thought would encourage me would also want to know what they can do to help. So, here goes..
First and foremost, though it seems cliche, the request for prayer was genuine. Prayer for courage on my part, receptiveness on their part, and then prayers for courage for them to do what is right and necessary. The problem ultimately is a spiritual problem. The powers arrayed against the human race are not flesh and blood, even if it is through flesh and blood that they carry out their schemes. They are great schemers, implementing their plans across generations, and even centuries. We forget this at our peril.
So, prayer. You can turn your prayers on the following points, as well.
Other things needed:
Contacts. If you know persons of influence, in particular those at the crossroads of power, your help in connecting them to me would be appreciated. These can include legislators, judges, executive branch officials, and even the staffers of these same. It can also include lobbyists. It can include corporate executives or other people who spread influence by cash; if they are conservative, and especially if they are Christian, these folks are in a position to shape what programs, agencies, and projects happen–or don’t happen. Similarly, people who may be interested in the project and you think should know about it (for whatever reason) are people I’d love to hear from. Your personal intercession and introduction with those contacts is critical.
If you really want to help, then this is the most important thing that you can help me with, as I have very few contacts at that level.
More signatures. I am informed that I am more likely to gain a hearing if I come to people with more than just my self, and instead stand in representation of others–the more ‘others’, the more likely I can get a hearing. You can either send people directly to the petition page, or you can send them first to my overview/explanation page. The more the merrier.
Continued encouragement and involvement. This is going to be a brutal process, and your continued involvement in the affair will be critical, not just in strengthening me personally, but by being alert to developments that you may be able to aid with. For example, if I’m coming into your area, I’d love to meet… and I might need a place to stay… So, drop me a note sometimes. One kind of involvement I need help with is…
Research Assistant. I have invested hundreds of hours in research in the last 6 months alone, largely nailing down documentation for things that I believed but I needed to source. But I need good information about the legislators and policy makers I plan on approaching, including such banal things as what legislation they are currently considering–and help identifying which bits of legislation are illustrative of the ‘culture of death.’ I also need help identifying which people are best worth my time to try to connect with. Can you help with this?

Have you ever just thought, “I wish the leaders of this country would listen to me for once?
I think many people would agree with the statement that our leaders are not listening. But what if the stakes were so high that you felt that you just had to be heard? The stakes are high: millions of lives are at risk. Literally. Hundreds have been extinguished in the time you took to read this sentence.
Many people who find this page don’t know me. Those who do know of my long interest in Christian apologetics and my growing emphasis on pro-life issues growing out of my daughter’s diagnosis (and subsequent ‘opportunity’ to abort her). It propelled me into new areas of research, and my discoveries outraged me–and I had previously thought I was well-informed.
Main discoveries of that research:
I don’t believe that a defense of the faith and a defense of life are separate issues. I never have. My pro-life activities have been integrated with my apologetics work, as my upcoming online apologetics conference illustrates. But my research has shown vividly just how closely they are connected.
In light of my discoveries, I began thinking about where my time and effort can be best invested, and have concluded that due to the scale of the problem, I could at least be strategic about which individuals I focused my attention on.
After much thought, I came to the conviction that I personally needed to go and speak directly to legislators, their staffers, and other ‘movers and shakers.’ I would request appointments, stand in line outside their offices, attend their public comment sessions, and otherwise open their eyes to the steady encroachment of ‘life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.’ I would continue to do this for 2-3 weeks out of each year, at both the state and Federal level. Every year. Until I die.
Perhaps no one will listen… but they will then be without excuse. And I will have satisfied myself that I have done what I could to maximize my time and passions.
I understand that I will be lucky to get 5 minutes with one of these folks, and often it will only be with a staffer. I am planning accordingly. I have created a document that I will leave behind that expands further on my perspective and the reasons for it. (The doc is free to those who sign the petition. Or, get it on Kindle.) Hopefully, I will get another 5 minutes with them the second and third time around, or at least drive them on to investigate my claims and the basis for my views.
My first conversation with them will explain the difference between a culture of life and the culture of death, and detail the different evidential basis for each. Later conversations, if I am privileged enough to secure them, will expand on the philosophical implications of each view, and show how those implications are manifested in areas that we wouldn’t normally associate as ‘pro-life’ topics. It is my view that they are all connected. (My document is designed to prove this.)

I steadfastly believe that men and women are made in the image of God and their value is derived directly from this fact, not from the ‘consent’ or ‘mutual agreement’ or ‘legal declaration’ of humans themselves.
Is it not written in one of our founding documents?
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
I concur, and further maintain that these rights include, as an obvious prerequisite, the right to live. Yet there are many people who believe otherwise.
These people believe that humans themselves have the right to decide when a person is a person, and when he is not, and they act accordingly. History has shown vividly that whenever this philosophy has been tried, tyranny and bloodshed have followed on a massive scale. People are trying out these philosophies still, and again, in the vain hope that the consequences will be different… they believe there is a way to do it without descending into the horrors witnessed in the 20th century. Wherever one looks, one finds that the same philosophies of yesteryear drive many of the policy initiatives or legislative proposals that are openly, or covertly, advocated.
I do not share their hope, and view their attempt as madness. There are many reasons to believe we are already well down the path towards tyranny, if not on its doorstop: bloodshed is already with us in the form of abortion on demand, ‘after birth’ abortion, euthanasia, etc., … and our right to ‘Liberty’ and the ‘pursuit of Happiness’ is severely curtailed wherever we look. They will give the living the right to life, but they insist on managing it practically to death.
Therefore, I call upon you to carefully consider the motivations and philosophies behind proposed legislation. Do not take the proposal apart from the rationale offered for it, as if the one has nothing to do with the other. Furthermore, examine, if you will, the philosophies that support existing policies, programs, agencies, and departments.
If you discern that any of these are not compatible with the principles our republic was established on, I plead with you to resist the proposals with your whole being, and likewise seek to repeal and overturn policies, laws, and institutions that have already been implemented.
I beg you not to rest, for only a culture of death can grow when Man has taken upon himself the place of the Creator. History tells the tale, and history is repeating itself before our eyes.
