It is as important as ever for Christians to engage society in the most powerful way they know how. Here at Athanatos Christian Ministries, we know that many Christians want to use their passions and talents to further God’s kingdom, but most of the time, those passions and talents do not fit neatly into a ‘box’ that makes sense to other Christians, or even the world. We serve a creative, creating God, and as we are made in his image, we likewise are full of surprises.
This series of contests is designed to encourage Christians from all walks of life to think about how they can take their gifts and passions and refine them into something of excellence, so that what we do may march before us into the world and perhaps beckon to others to meet the Maker of the ones who made such wonders.
When considering what kind of content would be best suited for our contests, one may wish to review the ACM website to get more familiar with our organization. The bottom line, though, is that we believe that good art, music, and writing need not be explicitly, beat’m over the head with the Bible, ‘Christian’… to be Christian.
Please note, these contests are different than our Christian novel contest, which is also accepting entries. We reserve the right to amend this contest as necessary to ensure that it is competitive, either by merging categories or by adding new ones. No refunds. Multiple entries welcome.

- Entry fee: $11.
- Grand Prize: $500 (in each category)
- Runner Up: $100 (in each category)
- Deadline: May 15th, 2017
- Winners Announced: August, 2017
Requirements and Judging Process
Judges will evaluate the entries to determine who is in the top 10% in their contest category.
The entrants determined to be in the top 10% in each category will be notified of such sometime in June, 2017. The top 10% in each category will then be invited to attend Athanatos Christian Ministry’s 2017 Christian Arts and Apologetics Festival at no cost to them or their immediate families.
At the festival, they will present or perform their work before a panel of judges designated for their particular contest category. The judges will then select the winning entry, which will be announced at the main tent on Saturday, August 5th, 2017. Depending on the nature of the winning entry, the winner in a category may even be able to perform or present their winning work to the festival audience at that time.
Entrants must be present at the festival to be considered for the grand prize, however a $100 ‘second place’ prize will be awarded in each contest category after the festival, regardless of whether or not the individual attended the festival.
Please do not submit an entry until you are ready to attach the document, mp3, or link to the video, to the contest entry form.
Please realize that if you are absolutely positive that you cannot attend the Athanatos Festival in 2017, the most you can win is $100.
There is no minimum age requirement, but any winners under the age of 18 in August of 2017 will need to have their parents or guardians accept the award on their behalf.
Do you want to be a judge for one of these categories? Email ACM’s Executive Director, Dr. Anthony Horvath, at director@athanatosministries.

- Short Story Contest
1,500 min — 5,000 max words
ACM has run several short story contests and published anthologies of the winners, which are available on Amazon.com. Feel free to think ‘out of the box’ in your story telling, but do bear in mind that even if the content is not explicitly Christian, that does not mean it should call evil good, or good, evil.
- Essay Contest
1,500 min -2-,500 max words.
ACM is an apologetics ministry, which means it is very interested in facilitating good arguments for Christianity or refuting bad ones. You are not limited in your topic choice, but your writing should be clear, concise, and powerfully stated.
- Christian vocalist contest
“Beauty will save the world.” Music has the capacity for conveying beauty in ways that are inscrutable yet profound. That’s just the sort of thing that ACM would like to cultivate!
- Short Film Contest
2 minutes minimum, 10 minutes maximum.
Like music, film has the ability to get under someone’s skin in a way that reason and argument cannot. This makes it a deadly foe and a powerful ally. Feel free to think ‘out of the box’ but do bear in mind that even if your film is not explicitly Christian, it should not call evil, good, or good, evil.
- Visual Arts Contest (Painting/Graphic Artist/Illustration)
Translating deep truths into still images requires a kind of introspection that many of us lack–interpreting those images can be thought provoking in all the right ways… or the wrong ways. Christians should be engaged in the visual arts if they are gifted, and ACM desires to affirm and promote those that do so effectively.

Note: in addition to determining and announcing the winners of the visual arts at the 2017 Festival, the artist Gary Thompson will be hosting and facilitating a separate, ‘Plein Air’ contest. If you’re attending the festival and you are a visual artist, you definitely want to look into this other opportunity! Click here for details. [Link coming soon]
